 | The Deli that cares about Food Miles
After only five months of trading Purely Cornish the Deli in Looe has been awarded a Bronze Award for the Best Retail Outlet in Cornwall by Taste of the West.
After being short listed, mystery shoppers made up of industry experts including chefs, restaurateurs, trade buyers and technical specialists were sent to evaluate quality of service, ambience, and evidence of local sourcing and knowledge of staff. "This is a fantastic achievement after just five months." said Andy Parritt and Ally Martin owners of Purely Cornish. "We have had great fun tracking down quality local Cornish produce that wherever possible is not sold in supermarkets and now have over 150 different lines in the Deli."
Situated in an old 16th Century bakery in Buller Street the Deli exudes a wonderful smell of cheese and olives, which coupled with its low oak beams and original clome bread oven makes a perfect setting to display the far too tempting range of products. As an added incentive to purchase local products, Purely Cornish operates a Food Miles loyalty card where the distance the produce has traveled to get to the shop has been calculated and customers are rewarded with points toward a discount; the closer to the deli the more points can be earned.

"I am delighted to see how a focus on quality and relationships with other local businesses pays off. Outlets like this are just what we need as they support both the local community and the visiting holiday makers" said Councilor George Hocking who presided over the opening of the Deli shop at Easter.

Testimonials 2006 Bronze Best Retail Outlet Cornwall. The judge was clearly very impressed with their visit noting in particular the availability and promotion of local produce in the store, the quality and speed of service and the knowledge of the staff. Taste of the West
"I am writing to compliment the staff of your shop for the wonderful service I received whilst on holiday. I have worked in retail myself for many years and it is not very often you get staff that make their customers as welcome as the staff in your shop. They offered me samples of some Cornish Lust which I ended up buying." Mrs S Lewis. Telford Shropshire
